Install the app on Windows
How to download and install ArchiviOnline on Windows 10 and 11, including when the SmartScreen warning appears.
Updated on 2 November 2026
The ArchiviOnline app keeps a folder on your computer in sync with your archive. It installs for your user only: no administrator rights needed.
Download the app only from the Download page on archivionline.it, or from the link your organisation gave you. Don’t install copies received by email or from other sites.
Installation
- Open the downloaded file, which ends in
.exe. If your browser says the file isn’t commonly downloaded, choose Keep. In Microsoft Edge: the three dots next to the file, then Keep, Show more and Keep anyway. - If the blue “Windows protected your PC” window appears, select More info. This is the Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning.
- Check that the program is ArchiviOnline, then select Run anyway.
- Follow the installer. When it finishes, ArchiviOnline opens and guides you through the first sign-in.
Why the warning appears
Windows shows a warning when a program doesn’t yet carry a recognised digital signature, a kind of stamp saying who made it. Armada is completing the process to obtain one: until then, Windows can’t verify the publisher by itself and asks you to confirm.
The warning does not mean the program is dangerous. Updates are already protected: ArchiviOnline only installs updates signed by Armada and rejects everything else.
If your antivirus blocks the installation
Some antivirus products block new or uncommon programs. See If your antivirus blocks the app. On a work computer, don’t change the settings yourself: ask your IT department.
Company-wide deployment
The .exe file on the Download page installs the app for a single user and updates itself. To install it on several computers with central deployment tools, such as group policy, there is also a per-machine MSI package, in Italian and English: it needs administrator rights, installs in C:\Program Files\ArchiviOnline\ and receives the same signed updates. It isn’t downloaded from the website: your IT department asks support for it.
