The app’s panel and settings
The panel with recent activity, the Settings tabs, the welcome tour and the folder in File Explorer and Finder.
Updated on 2 November 2026
From version 1.2.0 the app has a panel with recent activity and Settings split into tabs. Here is where to find everything.
The panel in the taskbar
On Windows the ArchiviOnline icon is at the bottom right, next to the clock. On a Mac it is at the top right, in the menu bar. Click the icon to open the panel. On Linux there is no panel: a click on the icon, at the top, opens the app’s menu (see Install the app on Linux).
In the panel you find:
- the last 20 activities: files uploaded and downloaded, new folders shared with you, sharing removed, files moved to “Unsynced local copies”, conflicts. Click a row to see the file in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac);
- three buttons: Open folder, Open website and Settings;
- a status line at the bottom, telling you what the app is doing: “Your files are up to date”, “Syncing N files…”, “Paused: …”. If you need to decide something, it shows “N deletions waiting for confirmation” or “Uploading paused for safety”: click the line to open the window again.
At the top right of the panel there is also the button to pause or resume syncing.
Settings
Settings are split into tabs.
- General: “Open ArchiviOnline when the computer starts” (usually on), the language (same as system, Italian, English) and the theme (same as system, light, dark). With the dark theme the ArchiviOnline logo has white lettering; if your organization has its own logo, it appears on a small light box, so it stays readable. If the organization also uploads a logo for the dark theme, from version 1.3.1 that one appears, directly on the background and without a box.
- Account: name, email, account type, organization and the connected computer. You also see the space used, for example “7 GB of 20 GB”, with a bar. If your space is almost full and your archive allows it, a Get more space button appears. The Disconnect this computer button disconnects this computer from the archive: it asks you first and does not delete the files on your computer.
- Sync: where the ArchiviOnline folder is (you can change it), the workspaces and the “Shared with me” folders to sync, the confirmation when you delete many files and the exclusion rules (see File protection). Workspaces and shared folders only appear if your account includes them.
- Network: the upload and download bandwidth limit, in KB/s (usually off: the app uses all the available speed). The proxy: automatic (same as the system settings), none or manual, with address, port and, if needed, user and password. The password is only saved in the system keychain. Test connection checks that the archive responds.
- Notifications: choose which notifications you get: new folders shared with you, sharing removed, conflicts and local copies, sync errors. Snooze notifications pauses them for 1 hour, 8 hours or until tomorrow. Security alerts (many files deleted, uploading paused for safety) are always shown and can’t be turned off.
- About: app version, updates, help, saving the log for support, legal notices. From here you can also show the welcome again.
The account type (Personal, Business or Public administration) is shown in the Account tab. With an older archive (before version 1.38.0) the app may only show “Business or public administration”. For business and public administration accounts, the confirmation when you delete many files is always on.
The welcome
After your first sign-in the app shows a short tour with a Next button:
- where the ArchiviOnline folder is (with an Open folder button);
- the panel in the taskbar;
- “Shared with me”, only if your account has shared folders.
It appears only once. To see it again: Settings > About > Show the welcome again.
ArchiviOnline in File Explorer and Finder
Windows. The ArchiviOnline folder appears in the left column of File Explorer, with the app’s icon, so you can open it with one click. If you change the folder in Settings, the entry updates. When you disconnect or uninstall the app, the entry disappears; your files stay where they are.
Mac. From version 1.3.0 the ArchiviOnline folder has the app’s icon, so you spot it at once in Finder. If you change the folder in Settings, the icon moves to the new one; when you disconnect, the normal folder icon comes back. Your files stay where they are.
To have it in Finder’s left column, add it to Favorites yourself: open the folder that contains it (usually your Home folder) and drag ArchiviOnline into the left column, under “Favorites”. To remove it: right-click the entry › Remove from Sidebar (the folder and the files stay).
If you delete the app without disconnecting, the folder keeps the icon: select it, press ⌘I, click the icon at the top of the info window and press Delete.
